l’Americano

Release date: March 2019

Born from a deeper look into Laurent’s Sicilian roots, l’Americano reimagines twelve Italian classics through an original Soul-Jazz lens. Think Celentano, Modugno or Paolo Conte, filtered through Marvin Gaye, Al Green or Serge Gainsbourg. Close your eyes, you can almost hear the waves on the beaches of Capri.

Laurent’s mother came from Sicily to Belgium at the age of eight with her mother and three of her siblings, joining their father/husband who was working in the Walloon mines. Wherever they are in the world, Italians always keep a strong link with their region of origin. Among all the things that connect them to Italy, cuisine occupies the impregnable first place, but music also plays a significant role. Every Italian song carries with it a little nostalgia for the country.

Laurent was born in a family of musicians and music lovers, and grew up listening to the melodies of Salvatore Adamo, Domenico Modugno, Adriano Celentano as well as Fats Domino or Chuck Berry.

All the music he has been exposed to, played and loved is represented in l’Americano. With absolute respect for the original melodies and lyrics, he has searched for the best adaptation for each song, according to its lyrics and subjective meaning.
